Sculpted from over a decade of engineering advancement and a rich lineage of predecessors, the new Vanford tests the boundaries of technology and engineering found in spinning reels.

Built upon a CI4+ body for both a lightweight feel and carbon rigidity, the Vanford incorporates a MagnumLite (MGL) Rotor for up to 48% less rotational inertia than traditional rotor construction for a quick response in critical situations.

The Vanford features Shimano’s cold-forged HAGANE Gear and many of Shimano’s premium technologies for increased fishing performance and years of durability.

Vanford’s SilentDrive and MicroModule Gear II technologies combine to produce a new level of smooth rotational performance while reducing overall reel vibration.

Vanford also incorporates Long Stroke Spool technology to increase casting distance while producing a smoother line lay on the spool during retrieval.

X-Protect technology and water-channeling construction enhance Vanford’s water resistance and overall durability — an important feature for a reel sure to be found in inshore environments.

From ice fishing and drop-shot fishing for smallies in the sweet water to stalking tailing fish in the flats, the Vanford has no equal. A legend is born.

PRODUCT TECHNOLOGIES:

This Two-speed oscillation system layers the line onto the spool in a precise crisscross pattern that reduces line-to-line friction for longer casts. Reels with Aero Wrap II technology utilize a patented worm gear design to move the spool upward quickly and downward slowly to wind the line in a precise pattern, reducing friction and giving anglers smoother and longer casting ability.

CI4+ is a Shimano original material reinforced with carbon fiber that is lighter and has a higher strength than conventional resin material. CI4+ is an advanced version of the original CI4 material and is 2.5x more rigid than its predecessor. While improving lightness and rigidity, reel bodies and rotors built with CI4+ are further reduced in size and weight.

The Cross Carbon Drag material provides a wider range of drag settings compared to traditional drag materials. The Cross Carbon Drag provides the smoothest Shimano drag performance ever while providing anglers with increased durability.

G FREE BODY - G Free Body technology has been developed to shift the reel’s center of gravity closer to the rod. This has been achieved by moving the worm shaft oscillation mechanism 19mm from the bottom of the reel to the top. By moving the center of gravity closer to the anglers hand position, the G Free Body helps to reduce fatigue and enhance casting comfort.

The HAGANE DRIVE Gear is produced by Shimano’s coldforging technology, without the need for additional machining. This delivers a longlasting smoothness, strength, lightness
and power at the very heart of the reel. Traditional diecast, machined gears are less durable under heavy loads.

LONG STROKE SPOOL - The long stroke spool has longer stroke compared to conventional spool designs. This longer stroke specification results in greater casting distance.

The new design of the MagnumLite Rotor produces unprecedented light rotation. The rotor profile — which was previously symmetrical — is now asymmetrical, and the bail arm mechanism — previously situated on the same side as the line roller — has been moved to the opposite side. This ultimately improves the overall balance. Combined with a lightweight line roller, titanium bail and optimum arrangement of rotor thickness, the MGL rotor achieves a 14% reduction in rotational inertia to increase sensitivity to unprecedented levels. But the evolution of rotors is not limited to just reduced weight, the rotor rigidity on the line-roller side is an important performance factor as well. When compared to conventional models, the rigidity for the MGL Rotor is up to 30% higher and contributes to enhanced drag performance.

ONE PIECE BAIL - The onepiece bail wire has no gap for line to snag on during normal operation. Made of Stainless Steel, it reduces friction and allows the line to get onto the line roller quicker.

The most obvious component of the Propulsion Line Management System is the new Propulsion Spool Lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations, Shimano’s new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design while also preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming.

S A-RB - A-RB is the industry's first “surface modification” to form a “passive layer” and realize a bearing that keeps rust away. In addition, SA-RB is a product that seals the sides with a rust-proof material and significantly reduces salt debris caused by salt recrystallization inside the bearing.

SILENT DRIVE - Removed ‘clicking’ sound and ‘handle play’ and overall improved smooth reeling.

With the use of rubber gaskets the drag is sealed against intrusion of the elements such as water and dust.

X-PROTECT - The contact type triplelip structure is introduced to the roller clutch, the pivotal point concerning water resistance. In this structure, the first lip prevents water from entering through the space between the rotor and the body. In addition, the special grease between the second and third lip  where it makes contact with the rotor collar located at the upper part of the roller clutch  not only resists water from entering but also minimizes friction resistance. Without jeopardizing the ‘silky smooth rotation capacity’, the vital feature of STELLA SW, exceptional water resistance, has been achieved to withstand the crashing and splashing of waves and spray.

X-SHIP is a combination of features that work together to create much greater efficiency. By positioning the pinion gear close to the centre line of the large diameter drive gear, more power is transferred from the handle to the rotor. The pinion gear is also supported by two Shimano ARB roller bearings. This creates more stability.

SALTWATER OK - Shimano's unique high-performance bearings that do not attract rust, S A-RB and A-RB, and anti-corrosion treatment on the exterior make it safe for sea fishing. We recommend washing with a shower after use so that you can use it comfortably for a long time.
